Resurrection turntable: 38 kg aluminium base, 17 kg parabolic platter with Edge Ring, 18 kg bronze sub-platter driven by 3 synchronous motors and 3 belts. Magnetic suspension and patented bearing. 83 kg. Handmade in France, to order.
Description
Resurrection is Pierre Riffaud’s most ambitious creation: a monumental metal sculpture, five-axis machined, where old-school mechanical thinking meets the latest machining techniques.
Three motors, three belts
The 38 kg solid aluminium base is machined in the Limousin region of France. The 17 kg aluminium platter has a parabolic profile, its diameter dictated by a metal “edge ring” that holds the record down around its rim. The 18 kg solid bronze sub-platter is driven by three moulded elastomer O-ring belts, powered by three low-torque synchronous motors arranged in a star pattern. Each motor sits in a solid aluminium block, suspended on a stainless steel spring and elastomer pairing. A quartz electronic regulator allows very precise speed adjustment.
Magnetic suspension
To minimise friction, the platter is carried by a magnetic circuit that concentrates energy locally, without radiation. The parallelism of the elements is adjusted to a tenth of a millimetre and the suspension height set at 1.5 mm. The patented bearing therefore carries only 10% of the load, while a patented preload system removes all axial play. The 18 mm shaft is lubricated with aeronautical grease.
